Amsterdam Walking Tour with The Rijksmuseum

Embark on a guided walk through Amsterdam’s historic heart. Discover landmarks like the Royal Palace, Dam Square, Maison Descartes, and the Begijnhof. Delve into Amsterdam’s rich history, from its origins on the Amstel River to its Golden Age transformation into a vibrant metropolis.

Pause to buy and savor traditional Dutch treats, such as herring, cheese, waffles, and jenever. Continue on by the Floating Flower Market, Munt Tower in Muntplein Square, the Rembrandt House Museum, and Kalverstraat’s shops. Conclude with a guided experience at “The Rijksmuseum,” seeing masterpieces by Rembrandt, van Gogh, and Vermeer. After the tour, continue exploring Amsterdam on your own.

Overlapping with her upcoming CNN documentary, international legal scholar Jessica Dorsey will explore the topic of drones and their application in warfare. She’ll explain the legal, ethical, and tactical disparities involved. You’ll not only gain invaluable insights into the dynamic landscape of drone usage but will also discover their evolving field strategies and the legal issues that they raise.

Scenic landscapes dotted with windmills, picturesque canals, villages with charming streets, locals dressed in traditional costumes, tasty Dutch specialties, and much more awaits you on your full-day excursion to Holland’s most authentic villages. This tour takes you to Marken, Volendam, Edam, and Zaanse Schans and includes a scenic bus tour through picturesque countryside, guided walks through the villages, a boat ride, visits to a wooden shoemaker’s workshop, and a windmill and cheese tasting. Time for lunch on your own.

Tour to Rotterdam, Delft and The Hague including Madurodam

We’ll start by traveling to Rotterdam and visiting the Euromast Tower, the city’s tallest structure (185 meters). From the top you can see the entire town, the port, the iconic Erasmus Bridge, and 30 kilometers in all directions! After a short city tour past the spectacular Rotterdam monuments and stopping at the famous Markthallen, we’ll continue on to Delft for lunch (not included). In this beautiful medieval town, you’ll visit one of the last remaining Delftware factories, famous for their blue-and-white ceramics. Then on to the Hague!

Afterward we’ll tour past the Peace Palace and the oldest House of Parliament which is still in use to this day. You’ll also see Noordeinde Palace, where the Dutch King works. Finally, you’ll visit Madurodam, the world-famous miniature town featuring highly detailed scale replicas of Holland’s most iconic landmarks!

Courts & Rights: US vs. Netherlands

Presented by: Dr. Kenneth M. Manusama

In comparing the justice systems of the Dutch, US, UK, and EU, we look not only at the historical roots and cultural influences that shaped today’s legal systems but also at how these roots shaped individual rights on national and local levels. Our speaker will look at Dutch approaches to rights broadly and US established rights, as well as changes that are now globally taking hold in both countries. The differences, similarities, and add in “modern technology,” are playing a role in shaping the direction of our privacy rights, our castle rights, and our health rights.

Afternoon Grand Dutch Food Tour (1.5 miles of walking)

This is the most comprehensive, fun, interesting, and diverse Dutch food and history tour of Amsterdam. Between tastings you’ll learn about Amsterdam from its earliest beginnings through the Golden Age to the present in an inspiring and entertaining way. But above all, this tour is also about making you understand Amsterdam and Dutch culture.

International Criminal Justice: Crimes, Institutions, and Procedures

Presented by: Dr. Sergey Vasiliev

We’ll hear from a preeminent legal scholar on international criminal issues, exploring the objectives and historical evolution of international criminal law and the role of international criminal justice institutions, including those based in The Hague. This session will provide attendees an in-depth look at the nature and unique features of core international crimes, the advantages and challenges of international prosecutions, and the vital role international tribunals play in fighting impunity for international crimes. We’ll also outline the criminal procedure before such courts and tribunals, taking a comparative approach, and discuss the complex relationship between the International Criminal Court with the major powers, including the United States.

Prosecuting Crimes in Ukraine: Domestic and International Options (1 ethics)

Presented by: Dr. Sergey Vasiliev

Expert speaker Dr. Vasiliev will focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine as a compelling case study of the challenges in holding individuals accountable for international crimes at the domestic, regional, and international level. Dr. Vasiliev will survey the parallel ongoing efforts spearheaded by domestic law-enforcement and international mechanisms to ensure accountability for the most serious crimes in Ukraine. The lecture will highlight the gaps which remain to be bridged in the international criminal justice system in view of the jurisdictional limitations of the International Criminal Court.

The permanent collection is one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art and design in the world. The most meaningful movements in both art and design are represented by artists and designers from around the world who are helping to shape the changes of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Next, pay a visit to the neighboring Van Gogh Museum. Your guide will help you understand the evolution of the artist’s work through his troubled personal life and experiences and lead you from Van Gogh’s earliest and darkest Dutch paintings to those of his more vibrant French period.
